Kindergarten

"Youth is a time to form both the head and the heart.”  Noah Webster

Kindergartners are enormously impressed by the significance of their first step on the academic ladder. They are "starting school" at last. They rightly sense that something new is in the air. Schooling is beginning and they are about to go boldly where they have never gone before.

At Crossroads we do not believe in disappointing little ones. We think school should be a place where little people can think BIG thoughts. The Crossroads kindergarten provides a strong introduction to reading and math, but it also is a place where children explore the continents, visit the stars, and plunge under the sea. Moreover, here they begin to develop habits of the heart that call them to be their best and make them sensitive to the needs and thoughts of others.

After-Kindergarten Enrichment Program:

The goal of this year’s After-Kindergarten Program is to instill a foundation for a lifelong love of nature. We will become a team of detectives that sets out to investigate the world around us. Students will begin unlocking the mysteries of the natural world!  After-K will be learning about some of the cycles and processes of nature. Each week will be dedicated to solving one of the great mysteries of the world, such as “Where do animals go in the winter?” “Why is the grass green” and “Where does rain come from?”

To this end, the After-Kindergarten Program offers a variety of exciting and engaging projects. For example, this week students are investigating leaves! We start out with a walk to collect as many different types as possible, and then we go back to the classroom for analysis. In the classroom, students learn to identify leaves based on shape, size, and color. We have lots of fun tracing and making our own leaves.

Another goal of the After-K Program is the fostering of students’ social and emotional development through a variety of indoor and outdoor games. These activities will give After-Kindergartners the freedom to run, laugh, and play, while learning more about each other and themselves.
