Hello Crossroads Friends and Happy New Year to all!
As we begin 2020, your Board of Trustees and the Middle School Steering Committee are working quietly but diligently to eliminate any barriers and plant any necessary seeds for a strong second quarter century and beyond here at Crossroads. This includes securing necessary permitting and resolving site issues while simultaneously assisting with the design for a new middle school building that fits our needs exactly – neither too big nor too small, but just right, as a famous fairy tale announced. We have collaborated with engineers, architects, and a host of dedicated volunteers, along with Brad and our faculty and staff to make sure the building we create is worthy of our amazing teachers and students, while fitting our school’s modest sensibilities –not too fancy or over-the-top! We have also begun the process of speaking to our Board about their individual support for this exciting project. Beyond these conversations, as Spring approaches, we will be visiting with parents, grandparents, friends and alumni. Eventually our plan is to talk with everyone about the long-overdue replacement of our well-used, retirement-ready trailers, and to ask everyone to make the most generous pledge they can to support this essential completion of our campus.
Very soon, your Board and Steering Committee will be sharing pictures of the campus master plan and new building, along with floor plans so you can see just what we are envisioning. We are fortunate to once again work with the science community of the Upper Valley and the New Hampshire Academy of Science, as we did with the recent Barn renovation. They are designing a second lab – chemistry and physics this time – which they will use during their after-school programs and during the summers. We have already worked out the kinks in this partnership and know we will all benefit when we serve children who need quality science instruction, both from the Crossroads community and beyond!
Please watch for more information to follow over the course of the Spring, as plans solidify and excitement builds. Our middle school teachers have been in on the planning since Day 1, and are already anticipating new ways they can make magic for our students with a space designed especially for middle school needs. With your help, we will get it done!
Onward! Posie Taylor
