Dear Parents,
Change is in the air. Suddenly, it has gone from spring to summer (and as I write this today at 39 degrees, back to winter). But the children are feeling it. The school year is coming to an end. The transition to summer is beginning.
This was, by many measures, a challenging year. But even with masks and COVID restrictions, this was a joyful and productive year. Our teachers found ways to bring the program to life within restrictions we had. The building and playgrounds were always buzzing with excitement. Right now, as I look outside, our third graders, dressed for their annual wax museum are running around with their wigs and top hats on. They are so excited about sharing what they know with us and with their parents.
Meanwhile, our eighth graders are beginning a major transition. When they are not playing foursquare on the hot-top, they are still working hard. Last week when I was in study hall with them, Ms. Gardner came in twice to remind them that it was lunchtime! Where else would you have to ask twice for students to leave their project work? They love what they are doing. They have submitted their final papers for Mr. Glazer, and are assuming teaching roles in their classes. I look forward to hearing their graduation speeches. Did you know that each student speaks at graduation? Their graduation is a very special, once-in-a-lifetime celebration.
Our biggest transition for 2021-2022 has already begun. I hope that you had a chance to meet Mr. Morrissey when he was here earlier this week. He is so excited to begin his headship at Crossroads. While he was thrilled to accept the position, he was even happier after he had the opportunity to visit classes and chat with the students. He loved the positive energy of the children and faculty. Seeing our program in action helped him to understand why we all love this school so much. I know that you, our faculty, and our students will enjoy and benefit from the leadership of Dan Morrissey.
As for myself, I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to serve Crossroads once more. While at the end of June my time here will be over, I won’t be far away. Jim and I have decided to move back to New Hampshire. While we will keep our house in Massachusetts, most of our days will be spent up here. I hope to substitute teach from time to time and to attend some of the school’s events.
Cheers,
Jean
