Each year Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15 by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates and recognizes the contributions Hispanic Americans have made to American society and culture. It also honors five of our Central American neighbors who celebrate their independence in September. Those ancestors have contributed to the fields of science, medicine, engineering, law, education, business, athletics, entertainment, and many more.

At Crossroads, our fifth through eighth grade students are studying a number of different Hispanic or Latin heroes and learning about their ancestral heritage, successes, and hurdles. Students created posters to honor these heroes, and hung them in the hallways of Fanger for our community to enjoy. To complete the weeks of celebration, our new Hispanic heritage experts were invited to dress up like their chosen heroes while presenting to their classmates about all that they have learned.
