With the milder weather, the students will be enjoying more time outside. Ticks have already been seen with the recent thaw. It is important to talk to your children about ticks and how they can help to check for them. Please make sure to include tick checks in your child’s daily routine.

When checking for ticks, pay special attention to these areas:
- Under the arms
- In and around the ears
- Inside the belly button
- Back of the knees
- In and around hair
- Between the legs
- Around the waist
Removal of Ticks:
Use clean, fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin’s surface as possible. Pull upward with steady, even pressure. Don’t twist or jerk the tick; this can cause the mouth-parts to break off and remain in the skin. If this happens, remove the mouth-parts with tweezers.
