Because students attend a language class every day, their understanding of worldly cultures, history, current events, traditions, and of course the language itself, are fully integrated with the rest of their Core Knowledge units throughout the school year. Take a look at what our Spanish and French classes are working on this fall!
What’s Happening in Spanish?
Currently in Spanish class, students are studying Hispanic Heritage Month, as they do every year from September 15 to November 2. Students dedicate this time to learning the culture of Spanish-speaking countries, geography, politics, customs, and achievements of those with Spanish or Latin American roots. The celebration culminates with the Day of the Dead celebration and cooking traditional Hispanic recipes.
What is happening in French?
In French 4 and 5, students have been working on their base vocabulary and grammatical structuring of subjects, subject and personal pronouns, and conjugating verb, avoir (which means to have) in the present tense. In French 6, students are diving deep into the culture of le monde francophone, learning about greetings and all things food! In French 7 and 8, students are wrapping up their exploration of the history behind the creation of Paris’s Catacombes – from the roman empire to modern day – and the events in between that created the mysterious and and many unexplored areas sous Paris.
