Dear Parents,
What does it take to succeed? Last week, during our Lower School Assembly, we marveled as we watched the Mars Rover, “Perseverance,” land. Your children know that a feat such as this takes both knowledge and virtue. The children loved it that the scientists at NASA know this, too.
One of the founding ideas at Crossroads is that small children can think about big ideas and be inspired by them. Landing an unmanned craft on Mars is a very big idea. Watching a group of scientists jump up and down and cheer when Perseverance landed tickled your children. Through personal experience they know that it takes a blending of knowledge, hope, hard-work, focus, and a great deal of perseverance to succeed. They practice this every day here at school.
Across the school, in every class, your children are learning what it takes to succeed. Science experiments are done over and over to validate results, letters and sounds are mastered and words are sounded out, math problems are worked again to find an error, and compositions written and revised. This month our fifth graders worked tirelessly writing, revising, practicing and delivering persuasive speeches to perfection. Your children are so proud of themselves and of their classmates, and rightly so.
Education is both a moment to moment journey and an investment in the future. What does the future hold for your children? I see both great successes and the resiliency to deal with failures. For these children, the sky’s the limit.
Warmly,
Jean
