Dear Parents,

Spring is coming and with that comes growth in many ways. Last year’s spring clothes no longer fit. Academic growth moves in fits and starts. Motivation wavers, soars, and then wavers again. For some, spring fever brings impatience, a desire to break out and run, late nights watching baseball, and spring sports that run into the evenings.

Rest assured that we know that your children are even more eager this year to get out and feel some sense of freedom and normality. Already, coats are being shed and the children are asking to hold classes and to study outside. We feel lucky that our 140 acres allow for your children to learn in the fresh air while embracing the beauty of nature.

Although opportunities to get out arise organically, we are also making plans to make the spring as festive and fun as possible. Our Lower School teachers are busy planning for a Royal tea party, a wax museum, and American Revolution portfolios. Students will surely enjoy watching chicks hatch, observing a praying mantis grow, and building circuits. There are also animal research books and hikes in the woods on the horizon. All of this while enjoying the sounds and signs of spring, including plenty of mud. (And apologies for the amount they are bringing home, diverting water toward the brook is a favorite, but messy activity!)

While classes are starting to move outside, the Middle School continues to plan indoor special events as well. Grade 7 English class is gearing up for their annual You Come Too: Robert Frost Celebration later this month. This class was also so inspired by Frost, that they are creating a new walking trail to honor the poet and have already begun making plans. Stand by for progress reports on that exciting addition to our trail system. Aladdin Jr. rehearsals are in full swing….from a distance…..and virtually. The movie premiere is being planned for May! There’s more to come including the Grade 8 Legacy Project, an outdoor seating creation for the Fanger Center, and, of course graduation.

Cheers,

Jean
