This year our school-wide art collaboration focused on a variety of artists (past and present) using the symbol of a feather. Below are a few artists that were highlighted to the students. These artists were chosen because of their wonderful connections to art, poetry, culture, science, math, and beyond.
- Ancient Greek Sculpture
- Albrecht Dürer
- Salvador Dali
- John James Audubon
- Leonardo Di Vinci
- Kelsey Montague
Taking inspiration from what they had learned from these artists, our K-8 students got to work on their own feathers. Students were tasked to create a design that incorporated their name or initials creatively into the design, include a Core Virtue word (or two) and highlight some areas that interested them by using text, graphics, shape, line, pattern, or even symmetry into their final piece.
As they are completed, each feather is united into a pair of wings installed on the bulletin board here in Bancroft. Each student will have their photo taken in front of the wings as we “lift off” into the new school year!
“Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings.” ― Salvador Dali
