Crossroads graduates go on to do extraordinary things after graduation. We are proud of their achievements. Our students would benefit greatly by networking and learning from those that have come before them. Please submit your updated contact information and let us know what you’ve been up to!
Additionally, there are many ways to get involved and give back to the Crossroads community. We would love to welcome you into our classrooms, either in the Lower School or Middle School so that you can share your talents with our current students. This would provide a wonderful opportunity for our young learners to know the impact their education can have and what they can look forward to in their bright futures. Your experience at Crossroads would also be a welcome addition to our conversations with prospective families. Families who are considering Crossroads for their children are already thinking about their child’s future. To see the outcome first-hand from a graduate would help solidify the positive longevity of a Crossroads education. Suppose you’d prefer to aid in a more career-focused or educational capacity. In that case, we encourage you to offer guidance on secondary school or college selection, career mentoring, or investigate employer internship opportunities. We are grateful for any and all efforts you might provide to help us reconnect with your classmates to bring alumni together and celebrate all that Crossroads Academy offers.
We are always excited to welcome past parents and students to campus at any time! Just recently, Donald and Nancy Dwight P’96,’00, visited campus for an impromptu visit. If you are in the area, we’d love to welcome you to campus to visit with familiar faces and show you our new Fanger Center Middle School building that opened in August 2021. Meet faculty member Kisa Lopez ‘12
Kisa joined our community in August 2021 as the First Grade Assistant Teacher and K-3 Spanish Instructor. After graduating from Crossroads in 2012, Kisa went to St. Johnsbury Academy. She was passionate about exploring her love of learning that developed at Crossroads in Dr. Fletcher’s science classroom, Mr. Tenney’s history class, and Mrs. Lahey’s English and Latin classes. Her desire to explore these topics further drove her to attend Wellesley College and pursue a degree in liberal arts. At Wellesley, Kisa studied psychology, focusing on child development and abnormal psychology. She always knew she wanted to work with children, and her college courses provided a solid foundation for her. When the opportunity presented to work at Crossroads, she knew it would be a good fit, and it has been!
I asked Kisa to sit down with me and explore her role at Crossroads further and to provide perspective on this new role within our community, and here’s what she had to say:
Please share more details about our K-3 Spanish program at Crossroads and how this compliments the Core Knowledge sequence.
Because of how a child’s brain develops, starting language skills as young as we do at Crossroads is critical in developing those skills. It becomes a much more integrated approach as they are still mastering their foundation in the English language. Additionally, our foreign language program accentuates the multicultural education received at Crossroads, where children explore civilizations worldwide.
Please touch upon the benefit of being a graduate of Crossroads and now a Crossroads faculty member. How are you enjoying your new role?
The biggest thing is that I bring a different perspective to the classroom since I have experienced first-hand how the Core Knowledge sequence can benefit a student. Initially, I joined the community to gain experience working with children, and teaching is a great skill to have. Before taking on this role, I thought I might pursue clinical psychology, but as I’ve become more active in the community, leading lessons, being hands-on with classroom prep, and leading my own Spanish classes, I am now considering pursuing teaching/education as a lifelong career.
What do you like most about working at Crossroads?
How supportive everyone is here, from the administrators to my fellow teachers and even the students. Everyone wants to see everyone succeed. Additionally, I’m drawn to the combination of academic rigor and character education. Integrating our Core Virtues program has a strong impact on the school culture and creates a warm, kind, accepting community for all.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
There are many ways to give back regardless of your pursuits after graduation. The broad scope of knowledge that we share provides opportunities for graduates to connect what they have studied or their careers back to what is discussed inside our classrooms. It would be so great for our students to hear from former Crossroads students and know you have lots to offer that would enrich our program.
